The Two Megs
Meghan Casey is 25 years old and comes to us
from Vancouver, British Columbia. Meghan has a
double major in Communications and Latin
American studies and a Certificate in Spanish from
Simon Fraser University. She is especially passionate
about writing and filmmaking. Meghan has spent the
last four years working with various non-profit
organizations in Vancouver on media and educational
projects. Most recently Meghan has focused on
international development and the politics and economics
around coffee and the importance of fair
trade. Meghan finished the last semester of her
degree at the University of San Francisco in Quito,
Ecuador last spring and learned a lot living and traveling
throughout that part of South America. She is
excited to now have this opportunity to explore
Costa Rica.
Meagan Fitzpatrick (Fitz) is 24 years old and originally
from Toronto, Ontario. Meagan followed her
four older siblings to Queen’s University where she
received a degree in political studies. With no aspirations
of heading to law school or Parliament Hill like
the majority of her classmates, Meagan decided to
pursue her interest in journalism. Throughout university
she was involved in a number of media-related
activities but it was a summer job at the Queen’s
alumni magazine that convinced her to try journalism
as a career. So when Meagan graduated in 2002,
she moved on to the University of Western Ontario
for her Master’s in Journalism. She specialized in television
in her last term and made a short documentary
on athletes with eating disorders. This past summer
Meagan was a member of the Ottawa Citizen’s
editorial board. She’s excited to be in Latin America
for the first time.
